Cidade Sombra [Shadow City]

The title Cidade Sombra [Shadow City] sums up the peculiar gaze of Fernando Martins on the city of Lisbon. Over two years of random walks he has developed a set of photographs, which depict the less visible places in the urban realm. His is an intimate approach that focuses more on impressions, fragments and the unusual than on the traditional iconographic tourist documentation or on the daily record of street photography. The images present a city that now reveals itself as new and disturbing, even though Martins’ works are also featuring historic and comforting details. This exhibition stems from a partnership between EGEAC and ARRANHA-CÉUS and manifests itself in the form of a simultaneous publication.
