Lembrança da Palestina [Memory of Palestine]

Vitor Pomar

Vítor Pomar’s exhibition Memory of Palestine unfolds in two interwoven moments: a sequence of paintings, images documenting the painting process and studio spaces, and an intimate, thought-provoking conversation between the artist and an advanced artificial intelligence system known as ChatGPT.

Printed on suspended scrolls, the conversation generates responses resembling a speculative discussion between two interlocutors. It forms part of a diary-like practice that the artist has been exploring and developing throughout his project dedicated to Palestine, creating a personal archive that is now published and exhibited.

The paintings, remarkable for their scale and displayed across the two side galleries, take the form of an installation composed of large mural panels. They were the focus of sustained attention and were worked on in silence for approximately one year in the artist’s other studio in Assentiz, near Rio Maior.
