OCUPAÇÃO: Arquivo: MUNDO = FERIDA [OCCUPATION: Archive: WORLD =WOUND] by Jota Mombaça is an archive that transits between invention and memory, assembled from preserved or remanufactured waste. This work referred in the first instance to the processes that unfolded during the performance project A FERIDA COLONIAL AINDA DÓI [THE COLONIAL WOUND STILL HURTS] (2015-…) and has also been informed by layers of issues surrounding migration, refusal and colonial pain.

List of works:
A FERIDA COLONIAL AINDA DÓI, VOL. 6:  Vocês nos devem [THE COLONIAL WOUND STILL HURTS, VOL. 6: You owe us] (video-installation)
O MUNDO É MEU TRAUMA [THE WORLD IS MY TRAUMA] (sound installation/reading session)
NÃOVÃO (visual file/projection)
MUNDO = FERIDA [WORLD = WOUND] (material file)

Performance: A GENTE COMBINAMOS DE NÃO MORRER [Us Agreed Not To Die], Jota Mombaça

Date: September 28
Hours: 6pm

A series of performances inspired by the homonymous work of Conceição Evaristo (“A gente combinamos de não morrer”, Olhos D’água, 2014), a Brazilian fiction writer whose work discusses issues such as violence, resilience and necropolitics from an afro-diasporic perspective. The performance consists of a durational performance, in which Mombaça manufactures handmade knives with precarious materials such as pieces of wood, shoelaces, and broken glass. An archive of texts, names and sounds accompanies the entire process in an attempt of staging a multitude of voices that, through the artist’s own voice, claim their bodies, their memories and their ways of surviving, despite capture and death.
