Studio Visit

Nuno Ramalho

Over the past decades, Nuno Ramalho’s artistic practice has focused on the conditions of production, circulation and processes of recognition within contemporary art. In Studio Visit, the artist returns to this programme, articulating the ways in which repetition, language and the construction of a name produce that which presents itself as natural. Across sculpture, drawing, photography, sound and installation, the works engage with the mechanisms that transform words, images, situations and gestures into a shared reality.

Considering the rituals, forms of legitimisation within the art world and economies of visibility, the exhibition critically establishes the figures of labour, productivity, symbolic capital and the construction of reality. From structures that are repeated and consolidated to the small disruptions that interrupt this continuity, the works question the strategies that, by naturalising the historicity of the present, organise the production of false evidence.
