Sutura

Sara Bichão and other artists from the Collection

The exhibition presented at Espaço Coleção Arte Contemporânea – Lisboa Cultura, formerly Galeria Avenida da Índia, one of the Municipal Galleries, marks the beginning of a programme that seeks to focus on showcasing the collection that the Municipality of Lisbon has been building continuously since 2016, as a way of taking the pulse of contemporary art produced today.

The programme opens with an invitation to Sara Bichão, as part of an initiative in which artists represented in the Lisboa Cultura Collection are challenged to revisit works already acquired, select a number of them and incorporate them into their own project. The aim is to encourage new readings and approaches between artists, fostering connections, affinities and, who knows, fruitful friendships.

For Sutura, Sara Bichão has created a series of previously unseen works that occupy the exhibition space. The works by other artists provide a kind of contextual framework for her pieces, opening up new possibilities for dialogue and perspective. The encounters established between Sara Bichão’s works and those in the Contemporary Art Collection – Lisboa Cultura remind us that there are no definitive truths, only metamorphoses and shifts, repositionings and substitutions, through which identities and relationships are transformed.
