Uma Obra em Seis Partes [A Piece in Six Parts]

Vasco Araújo

1/6

The Municipal Galleries and the Júlio Pomar Studio-Museum invited artist Vasco Araújo to create a piece for the entrances of the six EGEAC Contemporary Art Spaces: Galeria Avenida da Índia, Torreão Nascente da Cordoaria Nacional, Galeria da Boavista, Galeria Quadrum, Pavilhão Branco and Atelier Museu Júlio Pomar, as part of the annual project ‘A Work in Six Parts’, which began in 2024.

Vasco Araújo’s installation entitled Romance, 2025 unfolds in six movements, six excerpts from a narrative or autobiographical fiction, requiring the viewer to travel around the city of Lisbon to fully experience, read and understand it. The six parts coincide with six chapters of a novel that can be collected, on sheets, on plinths, at each location.

The work can only be fully appreciated by visiting the six spaces where it is installed, which are, in sequential order:

1. Pavilhão Branco (pp. 1 and 2)
2. Galeria Quadrum (pp. 3 and 4)
3. Júlio Pomar Museum Studio (pp. 5 and 6)
4. Boavista Gallery (pp. 7 and 8)
5. East Tower of the Cordoaria Nacional (pp. 9 and 10)
6. Avenida da Índia Gallery (pp. 11 and 12)
