Good Sad Happy Bad is a band formed by CJ Calderwood, Marc Pell, Mica Levi and Raisa Khan. Their second album, “All Kinds of Days” (2024, Textile), which follows their 2020 debut, “Shades”, furthers the band’s collaborative approach, relying on instrumental improvisations that each member works on with vocal contributions, creating a dynamic, shared storytelling experience. Throughout the album, the four musicians often unite on lush, layered choruses and winding guitars that add a communal resonance.
“All Kinds of Days” touches on themes of loss, mourning, recovery, healing, keeping a home together and the challenges of parenthood. Listeners are drawn in by ominous guitar lines, spoken word, ghostly murmurs and dark electronic textures, cut and disguised in an unconventional “band” sound. Underneath these atmospheric layers is a rhythmic base of drums and nuanced melodies that give the album’s sound an unsettling drive and beauty.
