This catalogue accompanies Filipa Roque’s solo exhibition, Desenhos Longos, which was on view at Quadrum Gallery between 30 May and 19 July 2015. This exhibition was part of the Budapest Cycle, an initiative of the Lisbon City Hall in partnership with the Municipality of Budapest. Through this program, two Portuguese artists are selected to develop an artistic project during a one-month residency in Budapest and two Hungarian artists were selected to develop a project also during a one-month residency in Lisbon. This volume feature photographic documentation of the works exhibited, including installation views, and a text by José Marmeleira.
“The lightness of the scribbles and the seeming familiarity of the lines, grids, squares and circles often result is a process of erasure and unveiling. We might even cautiously describe some of these drawings-paintings as palimpsests. “I work a lot with layers. Some of the paintings are completely different underneath. With the works in acrylic, sometimes I cover them and then I go back to discover them again because I realize how much I liked how they were before. Sometimes, it seems as if everything was decisive and finalized, but these choices were made in conjunction with everything that was around me. The paintings weren’t as fast”.”
