This catalogue documents the exhibition Field of View: Acquisitions 2016-17, curated by Sara Antónia Matos and Pedro Faro, which was on view at the Torreão Nascente da Cordoaria Nacional during 17-20 May 2018, and thus during the ARCOLisboa Fair 2018. In addition to the photographic documentation of the works exhibited (acquired in the period 2016-17 for the Nucleus of Contemporary Art of the Lisbon City Council) this publication contains an introductory text by Sara Antónia Matos, and catalogue entries written by Flávia Violante and Rita Salgueiro for each of the works presented in the exhibition.
“Organized according to aesthetic criteria and spatial relations, the subtitle of the exhibition is taken from the name of Luísa Cunha’s work, ‘Field of View’, drawing attention to the importance of the gaze and to our ability to directly relate to works by embracing the problems and questions they raise, whether these are photography – itself a technology steeped in a process of observation and framing – or three-dimensional, two-dimensional and sound-based works.”
