This bilingual publication complements the exhibition história secreta da aviação e alguns meteoritos [secret history of aviation and some meteorites] by Manuel Zimbro, which was on view at Galeria Quadrum, between May 5 and July 7, 2019. The publication consists of a folder containing loose cards with photographs of works and installations views from the exhibition. It also contains a booklet featuring the text “The Art of the Hand Sawyer”, written by Manuel Zimbro.
On the occasion of this exhibition, Galerias Municipais also published Le Lait de la voie lactée by Manuel Zimbro in collaboration with Documenta (Lisbon) and Paraguay Press (Paris).
“The experience we are about to describe may appear childish or amateurish, and provoke smiles and nods from those who, whether they are professionals or not, do it or know how to do it with their eyes closed; never mind, this isn’t intended for them. We too want to earn a living, but only with the deepest appreciation for life. Otherwise we would be experts in the field, perhaps obsessed with exchanges. This is true regardless of whether our work tool is a saw, a brush, a quill or some other instrument. Because any kind of work performed that does not enhance self-awareness must be viewed instead as leisure or form of escapism.”
