Uma Obra em Seis Partes – 2025

Vasco Araújo

Publication regarding the annual project Uma Obra em Seis Partes. In this edition, at the invitation of the Galerias Municipais and the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, Vasco Araújo developed an installation spread into six moments, one for each of EGEAC’s Contemporary Art Spaces (Galeria Avenida da Índia, Torreão Nascente da Cordoaria Nacional, Galeria da Boavista, Galeria Quadrum, Pavilhão Branco, and Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar). The installation, titled Romance, was on view from March 4 to April 3, 2025, and is now published alongside a volume featuring essays by Sara Antónia Matos, Pedro Faro, Vasco Araújo, and Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida.

“Thus, while the work is for reading, it is perhaps more accurate to say that it is a sculpture, because it begins in the body and leads to the body, traversing it, inside, out and throughout, arousing the libido and the senses.”
– Sara Antónia Matos e Pedro Faro

“We invent one another. Perhaps we wouldn’t be able to live together if we didn’t. We also invent ourselves. In our relationships with others. Our mirror image. Other only interet us to the extent that they’re our distorted reflection. Other are masks behind which our face can always be found.”
– Vasco Araújo

“But Romance is the tale of men unafraid. Open to pain and the unexpected, to love, extasy and discovery. Vasco Araújo speaks to us in the wonderment which slips between the fingers of they who dare, and are not afraid. Romance is an exaltation of a life refusing to fear being in love.”
– Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida
