The Municipal Galleries once again host the exhibition Ar.Co – Bolseiros & Finalistas’22, an event that has long since become an annual event that brings together a selection of works by finalists and/or scholarship students from the academic year 2021/22. Twenty-five participants represent the departmental areas of Visual Arts, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Photography, Illustration/BD and Jewellery.
The annual public exhibition of a selection of works by scholarship holders and finalists is a valuable complement to the training: it promotes the exhibitors’ critical self-distancing and their accountability vis-à-vis the wider fabric of society and history. For the school, the exhibition makes it possible to assess, between the lines of a necessarily synthetic presentation, the relevance and effectiveness of modifications and “updates” of its pedagogy. Finally, for the public, the coexistence in the same physical space of works from disciplinary areas once considered “major” and “minor” reflects the uniqueness of the Ar.Co project, where such hierarchical distinctions have no place.
