naive is a Lisbon based label founded in 2016 by deejay and producer Violet. While starting out as a platform to release her own music that somehow didn’t fit in other labels, it rapidly developed into an international sisterhood of artists that share the same values of social consciousness and progress in the field of electronic dance music. Along the way, sub-label naivety was born, which leans more towards exploratory than dancefloor proposals. Violet is also co-founder of Rádio Quântica, where she is known for the same critical and emancipatory spirit, and is a resident DJ at mina, a queer collective and rave party. Following a series of award-winning maxis and EP’s, she released her debut LP “Bed of Roses” on the North-American label Dark Entries, which was premiered live at the Berlin Atonal festival last year.
BLEID is a contemporary electronic music composer, who explores musical ideas with bravery and focus, moving beyond stylistic trends and the conventions of music produced on software. After a brilliant first release on Labareda, that combined singular textures with arrangements in industrial ambient fashion, she put out – together with Violet – the absolute belter “Badness” on naive. Between other releases and collaborations, BLEID and marum initiated Suspension , another crucial Lisbon club night that takes place at Galeria Zé dos Bois.
Odete works between the fields of writing, music, performance and visual arts – her work is explicitly autobiographic, challenging borders between the personal and the political. She describes her music as a sensorial theory for a weary girlhood, composed of silences, failures and breaks, and built from a transition narrative and her own experience as a trans woman. Her sets are something between anime soundtracks with lots of reverb, pitched voices narrating a tale of heartbreak, opera singing with no technique and the music of her friends. Issuing “Amarração” on Rotten \ Fresh and “Matrafona” on naivety, this year she released “Water Bender” on the English label New Scenery.
