Galerias Municipais are hosting a performance by Lisbon-based dancer by Flora Détraz at Galeria Quadrum. Tutuguri by Flora Détraz has been organized within the context of the public programs for Elisa Pône’s exhibition “Falso Sol, Falsos Olhos”, which was on view at Galeria Quadrum between November 21, 2020 and January 31, 2021. The video recording of this performance will be available online from March 1 to June 1, 2021.
Tutuguri – site specific is a part of Flora Détraz’s Tutuguri solo piece, adapting each time to non-theatrical spaces (galleries, museums, gardens, rehearsal studios). Detraz’s voice and body are performing together, offering the viewer the possibility to «hear» dance. In a polyphonic solo piece, Tutuguri explores the asynchronicity between movements and sounds, in a perpetual conflict of opposites. The dancer’s body is inhabited by whispers, animal growls, children’s noises, alien sounds, conversations, spasms, and is singing from the guts, thus transporting the viewer/listener into a spectral landscape of voices. Tutuguri aims for togetherness, it proposes fluxes of sounds and affects and promotes bridges into nothingness.
Flora Détraz is a choreographer and performer with a background in ballet and literature studies. She began her studies at Centre Chorégraphique National Lyon, under Maguy Marin, and then completed choreographic studies at Pepcc, Forum Dança, in Lisbon. She had the opportunity to meet artists Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Vera Mantero, Lia Rodrigues, Meredith Monk, Loïc Touzé, Meg Stuart, Jonathan Burrows, who all influenced her own work. Questioning the relationship between voice and movements, Detraz started choreographing her own pieces in 2013: Peuplements (2013), Gesächt (2014), Tutuguri (2016), Muyte Maker (2018). As a performer, she is currently working with Marlene Monteiro Freitas on Bacantes-Prelúdio para uma Purga.
