Collective Exhibition for a Single Body -The Private Score (Lisbon, 2021)

This publication accompanies the Collective Exhibition for a Single Body -The Private Score (Lisbon, 2021), on view at Quadrum Gallery from September 16 to October 24, 2021, curated by Pierre Bal-Blanc. It contains texts by Pierre Bal-Blanc and Tobi Maier, as well as short presentations of the artists and the works exhibited, and their respective reproductions.

“Pierre Bal-Blanc’s Collective Exhibition for a Single Body — The Private Score departs from a similar remit by transferring historical performance works into different geographies, activating them for younger generations and thus reassessing their agency.”

– Tobi Maier

“The score for Collective Exhibition for a Single Body draws attention to the works’ place of enunciation, namely the sites for which they are arranged, whether this be in Vienna, Leuven or Lisbon. The individual (the single body) does not count in his or her isolation – whether it be the artist who authors the work, the curator who selects it, the choreographer who sets it in motion, the dancer who embodies it, or finally the visitor who witnesses the work when it is performed. Rather, it is indeed discourse as it is delivered and from the place where it is delivered, and how it is shared, that matters.”

– Pierre Bal-Blanc
