The exhibition ‘Timescape’ brings together around 50 works of painting and drawing by Jorge Martins. Created over recent years, the works focus on the question of abstraction, which has occupied the artist for several decades. The exhibition also includes some archive material, such as notebooks in which one can perceive how the artist’s creative process incorporates aphorisms, quotes and visual studies.
The exhibition route seeks to emphasise the way that time is made visible through the creative act, unfolding in multiple forms that bring us closer to the enigma of existence. Jorge Martins’ work approaches themes linked not just to the history of art – landscape, light, colour or its absence – but also to other areas of knowledge, such as quantum cosmology, where ‘Timescape’ refers to the structure of the very birth of time and space.
