Publication of Uma Obra em Seis Partes by Luisa Cunha, curated by Sara Antónia Matos and Pedro Faro. The installation, consisting of six moments, was on display at the five Municipal Galleries and the Atelier-Museum Júlio Pomar from April 19 to May 5, 2024. The publication includes essays by Sara Antónia Matos and Pedro Faro, Luísa Santos, and Delfim Sardo.
«Since the 90s, her works have challenged the exhibition protocols and the viewer’s traditional expectations, confronting them with their own routines and socially imposed models of behavior, opening gaps to state both body and voice as a political topos. What Cunha claims is the right to the non-canonical, to occupy another space and position, reminding us that the production of inaugural experiences comes from fields and movements of slippage.»
Sara Antónia Matos, Pedro Faro
« Speech cannot exist as a linguistic act unless it is set out by the constant presence of pauses, silences. After all, silence and listening are interconnected in a relation of power.»
Luísa Santos
«This attempt at a systematization is fragile and possibly untrue, precisely because it’s a systematic attempt: In her work, the ironic device is inseparable from affection, which is inseparable from the body and its experience, from space as a phenomenological field in which the artistic act takes place and memory as the horizon in which recursiveness finds its possibility.»
